Ruby Among Us

Ruby Among Us
By Tina Ann Forkner
Published By: Water Brook
ISBN#978-1-400-7358-0
336 pages

Back Cover: Sometimes the key that unlocks your future lies in someone else's past.

Lucy DiCamillo is safely surrounded by her books, music, and air - but none of these reclusive comforts or even the protective efforts of her grandmother, Kitty, can shield her from the memory of the mother she can no longer remember.  Lucy senses her grandmother holds the key, but Kitty seems as eager to hide from the past as Lucy is eager to find it.

From the streets of San Francisco and Sacramento, to the lush vineyards of the Sonoma Valley,  Lucy follows the thread of memory in search for a heritage that seems long-buried with her mother.  Ruby.

What she finds is enigmatic and stirring in this redemptive tale about the power of faith and mother-daughter love.

NORA'S REVIEW
This is a very thought provoking and moving book.  Tina tells a tale that is intense.  The plot is intricately woven with many twists and turns.  The curiosity, pain and deep yearning of Lucy to get to the truth of her life, her mother's life and her grand mother's kept me reading this book every chance I could get to see if the truth would ever come out.  This book showed me a word picture for John 8:32 which says "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." Lucy longed to be free of the family secrets but how?

Kitty was the keeper of the family secrets.  Her heart was broken and her spirit crushed by the storms of life.  Kitty felt that she had to hold onto these secrets to survive.  This book showed another word picture for Psalm 34:18 which says "the Lord is close to the broken hearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed."

This story also is about forgiveness, redemption, and new beginnings.  I was compelled to keep reading this rich story to find out if Lucy could put the pieces of her life together.  The life she never knew she had.  Her Heritage.  It's definately a page turner.

NORA'S REVIEW:
They say that laughter is the Best Medicine for the soul.  You can't laugh too much is what I say! Many people I run into are so serious lately.  Even the kids cartoons on T.V. are serious.  I have found an Escape! Get a copy of this book; chill out, sit down; put your feet up and get ready for a good laugh.  Charles Marshall had me laughing about things I hadn't thought were funny before.

Some of the topics he tosses out and discusses are "Defining the Rules of Manhood:, "Mom's Cold Remedies", "A New Year's Health Plan", "Remodeling My House", and "The Black Hole" just to mention a few.  I found that Charles Marshall's view of life just cracked me up.

I started reading the book and laughing out loud.  I was totally into the topic he was discussing for each chapter and found my spiritual eyes open as scripture came alive.  I was also smiling inside and out as I kept reading the contents of this book.  Charles is able to really drive the point home.  He made me think about myself and scripture.  I had to stop and share these stories with my husband they were just too good.  We were both able to share a good laugh; spiritual truth and just some pretty funny stuff.

I love when Charles Martin says, "The good news is that the God I've experienced - The God of the Bible - is alive and relevant in today's world!" You will find Charles' humor alive and relevant in your life as you read this really funny and touching book.
